 Specific For the Auto Repair Industry:

In Missouri, there is no required certification for Auto Repair. However, certain certifications are highly recommended.

Training

Automotive Collision Repair program is offered by Kirksville Area Technical Center. It is designed for high school and adult students who are interested in obtaining employment in the field of auto body repair/refinishing.

Automotive Technology program is offered by Kirksville Area Technical Center. It is designed for high school and adult students meets the NATEF 2013 requirements for Master Accredited programs. Upon completion of requirements and specified learning hours, the student can receive their Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) certification, Automotive Service Technician (AST) certification, and Master Automotive Service Technician (MAST) certification.

The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) provides a list of class room instruction and hands-on practice locations for training.

Certifications

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) – tests and certifies automotive professionals so that shop owners and service customers can better gage a technician’s level or expertise before contracting services. ASE Certification is tangible proof of technical knowledge. There are eight certifications that can be awarded.

I-CAR – Education, Knowledge and solutions for the Collision Repair industry. I-CAR trains technicians to read technical manuals, make precise measurements and work with advanced computer technology.

As your business grows, you will need to make sure that your new staff will need to go through the appropriate training and permits for automotive technicians.

Specific for the Manufacturing Industry:

Regulations/licensing may depend on the product you are manufacturing and how big your operation is. Kirksville Regional Economic Development, Incorporated (K-REDI) or the City of Kirksville for more specific information.

Specific for Both the Auto Repair Industry & Manufacturing:

  • Choose your location wisely. Check your zoning with the City.
  • Learn about what permits you will need from both the City and the County.
  • Address environmental issues (i.e.: oil, water, waste disposal)
